Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for an XRF Laboratory Technician to join our team here in Liverpool, UK. The XRF department uses both wavelength dispersive (WDXRF) and energy dispersive (EDXRF) XRF spectrometers to analyse a broad range of materials and commodities for our clients. The department provides a critical function of AHK’s laboratory services. You will independently perform analytical methods and standard operating procedures with a high degree of precision and accuracy. Your key responsibility is to deliver an effective, high-quality analytical service, ensuring reporting deadlines are met for all samples/commodities submitted to the laboratory for evaluation.
Key responsibilities:
- To ensure full compliance with the company’s ISO 17025 and ISO 14001 certifications.
- Operate both WDXRF and EDXRF spectrometers for the measurement of samples and processing of the subsequent data.
- To be able to perform recalibration of the instruments applications.
- In conjunction with the XRF team, the organisation and processing of the daily workloads to meet the agreed work schedules and targets.
- To take part in method/application development projects.

Required knowledge and work experience:
- Strong team player with a collaborative approach and work ethic who can demonstrate a diplomatic and measured approach through leading by example and encouraging others.
- Ability to demonstrate literacy and to be numerate.
- Highly motivated with the ability to work under own initiative in a dynamic work environment with changing daily priorities.
- The ability to develop the skills and knowledge within the laboratory to create an environment where knowledge sharing is a priority.
- Able to demonstrate a high degree of manual dexterity and can regularly carry loads of up to 10Kg without issue.
- Ability to work in an organised and structured way, whilst maintaining flexibility to the changing and demanding needs of the business.
- Read, understand and follow work instructions and guidelines accurately.
Required work experience:
Proven experience of working within a laboratory environment is essential. A strong background of working with WDXRF and/or EDXRF spectrometers is preferred.
Required qualifications:
Education to at least GCSE equivalent standard is required.
