WHAT IS ON OFFER

Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a Group XRF Technical Support to join our team here in Liverpool, UK.

The group XRF teams use both wavelength dispersive and energy dispersive XRF spectrometers to analyse a broad range of materials and commodities for our clients.

The department provides a critical function of AHK's laboratory services.

The role will be functionally responsible to the Group XRF Technical Manager for providing technical, operational and method development support to the group XRF teams globally and actively taking a supporting role in method development projects and method improvements.

Ensure that an efficient and high-quality analytical service is provided in order to meet reporting deadlines and priorities agreed with clients.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing support in method development for new commodities.
  • Actively supporting method improvements to existing methods.
  • Where necessary providing operational support to meet the day to day requirements of the group XRF laboratories.
  • Ensuring at all times that a high degree of accuracy and precision is applied to analyses through incorporating and promoting good laboratory practice principles.

Also, for ensuring that work throughput is followed in accordance with documented methods and procedures.

It is the post holder's responsibility to inform a manager of any failure in compliance to documented methods.

  • Support group laboratory staff as required on technical problems and troubleshooting working alongside the Group XRF Technical Chemist and the Group XRF Technical Manager.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

  • To be successful at Alfred H Knight you will need to display the following:
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE Essential
  • Good knowledge of XRF and experience of applying this in a practical setting.
  • Strong team player with a collaborative approach and work ethic who can demonstrate a diplomatic and measured approach through leading by example and encouraging others.
  • Able to critically review technical information and spot root causes and suggest solutions.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work under own initiative in a dynamic work environment with changing daily priorities.
  • The ability to develop the skills and knowledge within the laboratory to create an environment where knowledge sharing is a priority.
  • Ability to work in an organized and structured way, whilst maintaining flexibility to the changing and demanding needs of the business.
  • Able to focus on meeting given deadlines.
  • Proven time management skills, quality driven and pro-active.
  • Required Work Experience
  • Minimum of two years experience working in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience of using both WDXRF and EDXRF analytical techniques.
  • Required Qualifications
  • A minimum higher college or degree equivalent education.
  • Required Languages
  • Foreign language skills would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Travel
  • Requirement for worldwide travel to group laboratories overseas to undertake site support audit and training visits.

Overseas visits will in general last between one and six weeks in duration, but longer secondments may be requested dependent on business requirements.
