Established for over 75 years, A&H Hargreaves is a traditional carpentry and joinery contractor based in Rossendale, Lancashire, working in the public, commercial and private sectors. We have a fully equipped modern workshop and pride ourselves on being able to manufacture bespoke quality products and undertake all aspects of site carpentry.
We are a small but driven joinery company that prides itself on delivering high-quality craftsmanship with precision, efficiency, and accountability.
THE ROLE
Working primarily in a workshop, the Bench Joiner role requires excellent craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of using workshop woodworking machines. There will be a requirement to also undertake site joinery work, including installation of products manufactured in the workshop.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manufacture doors, windows, staircases, cabinets, furniture, and other bespoke items as per specifications.
- Technical drawings and Setting Out: Read and understand detailed plans, sketches, or blueprints to produce precise joinery products. Must have experience of setting out work independently.
- Competent use of tools and machinery: Operate woodworking machinery (e.g., saws, planers, routers). Use hand tools such as chisels, planes, and saws to achieve detailed finishes.
- Material Selection and Preparation: Select, measure, and prepare wood and other materials for cutting, shaping, and assembling.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished products to ensure they meet design specifications and quality standards.
- Workshop Maintenance: Maintain and perform basic repairs on tools and equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Collaboration: Work with all other members of the team and the client, to ensure products meet client needs and fit installation requirements.
- Health and Safety: Adhere to workplace safety regulations and practices, ensuring a clean and organized workshop environment.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Carpentry or Joinery, or equivalent qualifications.
- Bench Technical Skills: Proficient in using woodworking tools and machinery. Strong understanding of wood properties and joinery techniques. Ability to work with both traditional and modern materials (e.g., MDF, laminates). Be able to demonstrate experience and previous work undertaken.
- Site Technical Skills: Must be confident and competent to undertake site joinery works, including installation of products manufactured in the workshop.
- Craftsmanship and Attention to Detail: Skilled hand-eye coordination for detailed craftsmanship. Precision and care in producing high-quality joinery.
- Communication: Ability to interpret instructions and liaise with team members effectively and be competition is working in a customer facing environments as required
- Problem-Solving: Capacity to troubleshoot issues and adjust processes as needed.
- Enhanced DBS check will be required on successful appointment to this role
- Full UK Driving Licence
