Key Responsibilities

The volunteer will engage with households in Lozells and other communities in Birmingham to assess health and social needs, promote healthy lifestyles, improve health literacy, and signpost individuals to relevant community services and collect data and report findings to project leads. The volunteer will be undertaking health fieldwork which contributes directly to the achievement or advancement of AHEAD’s charitable purpose.

Person Specification – Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of secondary education or equivalent; study or training in health, social care, or community development is desirable.
  • Demonstrable interest in public health, community outreach, or health promotion.
  • Willingness to undertake training provided by AHEAD International, including safeguarding and data protection.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Ability to engage respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Reliable, motivated, and able to work under supervision.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and ethical conduct in community settings.

AHEAD International engages volunteers to support its charitable activities. All voluntary roles are unpaid. No salary or remuneration is provided in line with section 44 of the UK National Minimum Wage Act; reasonable out-of-pocket expenses only. The volunteer will not be filling a permanent position and will not be involved in routine back office administrative roles, retail or other sales roles, fund-raising roles and roles involved in the maintenance of the charity office and other assets.
