Head Commercial Analyst - Agriculture in Coventry

Coventry Full-Time No working from home possible
AHDB - Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board

We are currently recruiting for a newly created Head Commercial Analyst (Cereals & Oilseeds) role to join our Economics and Analysis team. Working on a hybrid basis from our Coventry headquarters and the remainder remotely, this is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape AHDB's role in market analysis and delivering industry insights for the cereals and oilseeds sector.

In this role, you will play a key part in leading the market analysis team, providing strategic, forward‑looking analysis that supports industry competitiveness and resilience. Working closely with the Chief Economist and senior stakeholders across the industry, you will lead a team of experienced analysts to deliver high‑quality market intelligence, strengthen stakeholder engagement and maximise the impact of our analytical outputs.

This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future direction of our commercial insights for this key sector. Ideal for an individual with deep sector knowledge, strong commercial awareness and a strategic mindset, the role will combine industry influence, stakeholder engagement and team leadership to ensure we continue to provide valuable and trusted insights that support our grower, cereal buyer and processor levy payers, and the wider industry. Regular travel across the UK and occasional overseas travel is required, along with a full UK driving licence.

About AHDB

We are the independent, impartial public body that unlocks success in British agriculture. Funded by a levy from over 100,000 British producers in the beef, lamb, pork, dairy and cereals sectors, we support and champion farmers, growers and processors, often where no one else can or will.

We share the expert, evidence‑based research and reports that inform on‑farm decision making. We promote British produce to the UK public through domestic marketing campaigns, and we identify and open new global export opportunities to help farm businesses grow.

We help levy payers learn more, sell more and export more to remain sustainable and profitable. Together, we deliver the insights, the influence and the impact that farmers need.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop an experienced team of cereals and oilseeds analysts, delivering high‑quality analysis and industry intelligence
  • Provide leadership and direction to the team, creating a culture of excellence, innovation and continuous improvement
  • Shape the strategic direction of market insight activity, ensuring we continue to provide valuable and trusted intelligence to levy payers and stakeholders
  • Build and maintain influential relationships across industry, government and the wider supply chain, strengthening our reputation and impact
  • Translate market, economic and sector intelligence into clear commercial insights that support strategic decision‑making
  • Act as a senior ambassador for AHDB, representing the organisation externally and supporting the Chief Economist in delivering directorate and corporate objectives

Essential Criteria

  • Significant experience delivering commercial, market or economic analysis within the agriculture, commodities or wider agri‑food sector, ideally with commercial, advisory or consultancy experience
  • Strong understanding of cereals and oilseeds markets, with an established network of industry contacts and the credibility to engage effectively with senior stakeholders across the supply chain
  • Proven experience leading, developing and motivating high‑performing teams, with the ability to create a strategic vision and translate this into successful delivery
  • Degree‑level qualification in economics, agriculture, agribusiness or a related discipline (or equivalent experience), together with a full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex market intelligence to a variety of audiences and build strong internal and external relationships
  • Demonstrable track record of leading projects, shaping strategic initiatives and delivering measurable impact through insight and analysis, ideally including experience of commercial trading environments

The Benefits

  • 35 hours per week, Monday‑Friday
  • 33 days of annual leave plus one privilege day (inclusive of bank holidays)
  • Life assurance cover (4× salary)
  • A market‑leading defined contribution pension scheme with Legal & General
  • Enhanced pay of 20 weeks for maternity, adoption and shared parental leave, subject to length of service
