Stock Specialist / Herdsperson – South Ayrshire, Scotland – Β£40, – Β£50, + Accommodation + Benefits

The Job:
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and confident Stock Specialist / Herdsperson to join a progressive, family-run dairy operation in South Ayrshire. The business operates two neighbouring units milking a total of cows (Ayr calving flying herd).
This is a hands-on, responsible role working alongside a supportive team, taking day-to-day care of the herd and ensuring consistently high standards of animal health and welfare.

Key Responsibilities:
– Day to day management of dairy herd health, including mastitis detection, illness treatment, and general welfare
– Milking duties and early health issue identification
– Calf rearing, feeding and grassland management
– Assist with or carry out AI and hoof trimming (preferred, not essential)
– Maintain accurate records and report herd health data as required
– Work closely with the farm’s dairy manager, milker, and remote family owners for operational updates and herd management
– Operate modern farm machinery for silage and slurry operations where required (desirable but not essential)

The Candidate:
– Proven experience managing or caring for a dairy herd
– Genuinely passionate about livestock, with strong attention to detail and high welfare standards
– A practical, reliable, and hands-on person, confident working both independently and as part of a busy team
– Strong communication and problem-solving skills
– AI and hoof trimming experience advantageous
– Tractor driving skills a plus, particularly for silage and slurry work, though not essential
