The Job:

An established environmental consultancy is seeking an experienced Associate / Arboriculture Team Manager to take a senior role within its Manchester arboriculture team.

You will combine technical arboricultural consultancy with team leadership, project management and client development. The role offers responsibility for a varied workload, supporting the development of colleagues and helping to grow the arboricultural service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a varied portfolio of arboricultural consultancy projects from initial instruction through to completion
  • Lead, manage and support Arboricultural Consultants and Surveyors, including workload planning and technical development
  • Undertake and review tree surveys, inspections, condition and risk assessments and tree management work
  • Prepare and quality-check BS5837 documentation, Arboricultural Impact Assessments and Arboricultural Method Statements
  • Produce technical reports and provide professional advice to clients, planning authorities, landowners and other stakeholders
  • Advise on planning and tree-related matters including TPOs, Conservation Areas, Felling Licences and High Hedge applications
  • Use CAD and GIS to support survey, mapping and development-related work
  • Manage project programmes, budgets, resources and commercial performance
  • Build and maintain client relationships and contribute to tenders, fee proposals and new opportunities
  • Work alongside planning, environmental and other professional teams on multidisciplinary projects
  • Maintain strong standards of technical quality, health and safety and service delivery

The Company:

The company is an established environmental consultancy with a specialist arboriculture service, working on a broad range of development, land management and infrastructure projects. The arboriculture team works closely with other environmental and planning disciplines, providing a varied project workload and opportunities for experienced professionals to take on greater responsibility.

The Candidate:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in arboricultural consultancy, with strong knowledge of tree surveying, inspection, risk assessment and development related arboriculture
  • Degree in Arboriculture or a related subject, with professional membership such as the Arboricultural Association advantageous
  • Strong BS5837 experience, including technical reports, Arboricultural Impact Assessments, Method Statements and visual tree assessments
  • Good understanding of planning and environmental requirements affecting trees, including TPOs, Conservation Areas, Felling Licences and High Hedge legislation
  • Previous experience managing or leading an arboricultural team, including allocating resources, supporting colleagues and maintaining technical standards
  • Commercially confident, with experience managing projects, budgets, client relationships, tenders and fee proposals; experience with larger survey programmes would be beneficial
  • Strong AutoCAD and GIS capability, together with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Well organised and able to manage multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders while working independently and as part of a wider team
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required
