A hands-on grounds maintenance role responsible for maintaining and preparing high quality sports turf and playing surfaces across a multi-site school estate. Working within the Estates team and reporting to the Sports Turf Manager, the postholder will ensure all pitches and facilities are safe, well presented and suitable for a wide range of sporting and school activities throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and prepare sports pitches and turf areas across the school estate to a consistently high standard for rugby, football, cricket, athletics and other activities.
  • Carry out routine and seasonal grounds maintenance including mowing, aeration, fertilising, irrigation, weed control, turf repairs and pitch marking.
  • Operate and maintain a range of grounds machinery and equipment safely and efficiently in line with required standards.
  • Support the maintenance of artificial surfaces alongside general estate upkeep and responsive grounds tasks as required.
  • Work collaboratively with sports and estates colleagues to ensure pitches and facilities are prepared, available, and scheduled effectively.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience in sports turf maintenance, groundskeeping or similar outdoor estate maintenance role.
  • Good practical knowledge of mowing, aeration, fertilising, weed control and pitch preparation.
  • Confident operating grounds maintenance machinery and equipment.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and undertake physically demanding work.
  • Strong team player with a reliable, proactive, and detail focused approach.
  • Full clean driving licence essential.
  • Minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role.
  • Legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.

Package

  • Salary £27,810 per annum (DOE).
  • 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday (52 weeks per year).
  • Standard hours: 8:00am–4:30pm Monday–Thursday, 8:00am–3:30pm Friday.
  • 25 days annual leave plus public holidays (term-time arrangements apply).
