The Job:

We are recruiting for a reliable and practical Assistant Herdsperson to join an established dairy farm in Warwickshire.

This is an opportunity to work within a spring-calving, grass based dairy system, supporting the daily management of the herd and wider farm operations. The role would suit someone with dairy experience who enjoys working with livestock and wants to develop their skills in herd management and grazing. Milking experience is preferred, but there is scope to build your knowledge of grazing management with support from the farm team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out milking duties and assist with the daily management of the dairy herd
  • Monitor cow health and welfare, identifying potential issues such as mastitis and lameness
  • Support grazing management, including grass monitoring, paddock rotations and electric fencing
  • Operate tractors and assist with general farm work as required
  • Help maintain high standards of livestock care, hygiene and farm biosecurity
  • Work alongside the wider team to ensure the smooth running of day to day farm operations

The Company:

An established dairy farming business operating a grass-based, spring calving system. The farm offers a practical working environment where staff can develop their knowledge of dairy production, grazing management and herd performance.

The Candidate:

  • Previous dairy farming experience, with milking experience preferred
  • Confident handling cattle and able to recognise changes in cow health, behaviour and condition
  • Practical tractor driving skills and a willingness to undertake general farm duties
  • An interest in grazing based dairy systems, with a willingness to learn about grass management, rotations and fencing
  • Reliable, observant and hardworking, with the ability to work independently when required and contribute to a wider team
  • A positive attitude towards learning and developing skills within a modern dairy operation

The Package:

  • Salary £28,000–£30,000 per annum DOE
  • Free on site static caravan accommodation, with electricity and water included
  • 11 days on, followed by 3 days off
  • 28 days' annual holiday
  • Ongoing training and development
  • Opportunity to take part in a dairy discussion group and develop practical herd management knowledge

Candidate Requirements

All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
