We are recruiting for an experienced and motivated Herd Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of a well‐run, progressive dairy unit. This is an excellent opportunity for a capable individual to lead herd operations on a modern, family‐run farm with a strong focus on cow welfare, milk quality, and efficiency.

The farm operates a split block calving system and is equipped with a 30:60 swing‐over parlour and a new, purpose‐built calf rearing unit, offering excellent facilities and working conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take full responsibility for the day‐to‐day running of the dairy herd
  • Manage milking routines, cow health, and fertility across split calving blocks
  • Oversee youngstock management and utilise the new calf unit to ensure strong rearing outcomes
  • Maintain high standards of milk hygiene, cow comfort, and welfare
  • Liaise with vets, nutritionists, and contractors to optimise herd performance
  • Keep accurate herd records, including health, breeding, and production data
  • Supervise and motivate staff to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Contribute to farm planning, feed management, and continuous improvement
The Candidate
  • Proven experience in a senior dairy position (Assistant Herdsman, Herd Manager, or similar)
  • Strong knowledge of herd health, breeding and milk production systems
  • Confident working with block calving herds and modern milking systems
  • Organised, reliable and able to manage staff effectively
  • Competent record keeping and basic computer literacy
  • Full UK driving licence required
