Lecturer in Horticulture - London - £28,000–£44,000

We are looking for a Lecturer in Horticulture to join an established horticultural education provider in London. This role would suit either an experienced horticultural professional looking to move into education or an existing lecturer/trainer with a suitable teaching qualification.

You will combine your practical horticultural knowledge with teaching, assessment and learner support, helping students build the knowledge and practical skills they need for their future careers. Candidates with strong horticultural experience but no formal teaching qualification will also be considered, with support provided to gain the relevant teaching qualification while working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging classroom-based and practical horticultural teaching to learners across different levels
  • Plan lessons and contribute to the development of courses, learning materials and practical activities
  • Assess learner knowledge and practical skills, provide feedback and monitor progress
  • Provide guidance and support to learners, including helping them work towards their individual goals
  • Bring current horticultural knowledge and industry practices into teaching and practical sessions
  • Support safe and effective use of horticultural equipment, machinery and facilities
  • Work with other teaching and technical staff to deliver a positive learning experience
  • Contribute to learner induction, progression activities, open days and other college events
  • Maintain appropriate learner records and use digital systems to support teaching and administration

The Company

An established horticultural education provider in London, delivering practical and theory based training across a range of horticultural disciplines. The organisation is focused on developing practical skills and supporting learners into further education, employment and careers within the horticultural sector.

The Candidate

  • Strong practical horticultural background with knowledge across areas such as plant and soil science, propagation, plant health, machinery, turf, landscaping, organic horticulture or garden centre operations
  • Experience of teaching, training, assessing or supervising others would be advantageous, although experienced horticultural professionals looking to move into teaching will be considered
  • Confident communicating practical skills and technical information to people with different abilities, experience levels and learning needs
  • Good organisation, administration and IT skills, with the ability to use digital learning systems and maintain accurate records
  • Positive, approachable and supportive, with a genuine interest in helping learners develop their skills and progress
  • Relevant horticultural qualifications, NPTC certificates or practical training such as PA1, PA6A or machinery-related qualifications would be beneficial
  • A formal teaching qualification is preferred for the higher salary range, but is not essential; support will be provided to gain the required qualification where appropriate

The Package

  • £28,000–£32,000 for candidates with relevant horticultural experience but without a teaching qualification
  • £35,000–£44,000 for candidates with relevant teaching experience and appropriate qualifications
  • Full support towards gaining a recognised teaching qualification
  • Over 30 days' holiday
  • Full-time position based in London
  • Ongoing professional development and training
  • Opportunity to develop a career within horticultural education
  • Exposure to a broad range of horticultural subjects and learner groups

Candidate Requirements

All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
