Join a professional football club as Deputy Head Grounds Person and play a key role in maintaining and developing its playing surfaces and stadium grounds. Working closely with the Grounds Manager, you will ensure the pitch is presented to the highest professional standards for first‑team fixtures, training activities, and stadium events, while contributing to the ongoing development of club facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the stadium pitch and surrounding landscaped areas
  • Carry out all aspects of pitch maintenance including mowing, line marking, aeration, fertilisation, overseeding, irrigation and pest and disease management
  • Support seasonal renovation and pitch improvement programmes
  • Monitor pitch conditions and identify opportunities for continual improvement
  • Assist with all matchday pitch preparations
  • Support post‑match pitch recovery and restoration work
  • Contribute to stadium event preparation and reinstatement activities
  • Operate specialist grounds maintenance machinery safely and effectively
  • Carry out routine maintenance and inspections of equipment
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures
  • Assist with the supervision and coordination of casual and temporary grounds staff
  • Work closely with football operations, stadium operations and wider departments
  • Maintain high presentation standards across all grounds and external areas
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the grounds team

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience within professional football, sports turf or fine turf environments
  • Strong practical knowledge of natural grass pitch maintenance
  • SVQ Level 3 in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent)
  • PA1, PA2, and PA6 Spraying Certificates
  • Basic IT proficiency
  • Effective communication skills
  • Self‑motivated and proactive attitude
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Experience supervising staff or contractors
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role
  • Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment
