A great opportunity has arisen for a Compost Manager to take responsibility for the day to day running of a busy composting site. This is a hands on management role focused on ensuring efficient production, maintaining high quality compost standards and operating in full compliance with environmental and health & safety regulations. You will oversee site operations, lead a small team and ensure the site runs safely, efficiently and in line with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management
- Oversee and manage composting processes across the site
- Monitor temperature, moisture, and aeration levels
- Ensure correct waste segregation and material handling
- Monitor fuel usage and operational supplies
- Staff Supervision
- Train and support staff on operational and safety procedures
- Maintain attendance and performance records
- Ensure correct PPE usage and adherence to site safety standards
- Compliance & Site Management
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and health & safety standards
- Manage odour control, leachate systems, and pest control
- Conduct routine site inspections
- Quality Control
- Inspect incoming organic materials
- Monitor compost maturity and ensure quality standards are met
- Coordinate screening, storage, and finished product checks
- Ensure production meets PAS100 standards
- Reporting & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate production, temperature, and turning records
- Track incoming materials and output levels
- Produce reports on site performance, incidents, and compliance
- Liaise with management and regulatory bodies as required
