A well established and progressive arable and fresh produce farm is seeking a hands-on Assistant Farm Manager to support day-to-day farm operations and work closely with the Farm Manager. This role offers genuine responsibility, variety and clear progression within a growing and sustainability-minded business. The opportunity is suitable for an experienced operator or junior manager looking to step into a more senior role while remaining actively involved in field operations across multiple sites. The farm is a market-leading fresh produce operation growing salads, squash and pumpkins.

Job description

  • Supporting the Farm Manager with daily operational and planning activities
  • Acting as second-in-command and making decisions in the Farm Manager’s absence
  • Hands-on involvement in drilling, spraying, crop establishment, husbandry, irrigation and harvesting
  • Supervising, leading and allocating daily workloads to seasonal and permanent staff
  • Operating and overseeing machinery and equipment
  • Ensuring compliance with health & safety, food safety and assurance standards
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives
  • Taking driving operational decisions when required

Candidate requirements

  • Experience in arable and fresh produce farming
  • PA1, PA2 and PA6 certification
  • Comfortable managing people while remaining hands-on
  • Strong organisational, leadership and communication skills
  • Proactive, reliable and keen to progress into a Farm Manager role
  • Interest in sustainable and efficient farming practices
