An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Ruminant Nutritionist to join a progressive agricultural business supporting livestock enterprises across the Carlisle and Dumfries region. This role is ideal for a recent graduate looking to develop practical experience in ruminant nutrition, ration formulation, and on-farm advisory work. You will work closely with experienced nutritionists and farmers to deliver data-driven feeding strategies that enhance animal health, performance, and farm profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the formulation of rations for dairy, beef, and sheep systems
  • Assisting with on-farm visits, providing nutritional advice and monitoring performance
  • Analysing forage, feed, and production data (e.g. milk yield, growth rates)
  • Working alongside senior nutritionists to develop tailored feeding programmes
  • Supporting nutritional trials and on-farm data collection
  • Building strong relationships with farmers and providing ongoing technical support
  • Maintaining accurate records and producing technical reports
  • Keeping up to date with developments in ruminant nutrition and feed technologies

  • Degree in Animal Science, Animal Nutrition, Agriculture, or a related field

  • Willingness to travel and work on farms in all conditions
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Placement or internship within ruminant nutrition or livestock farming
  • Familiarity with ration formulation software
  • Basic understanding of forage analysis and feed efficiency
