Forestry Consultant in Perth

The Job Role:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior forestry consultant to join an expanding team, taking a key role in overseeing and developing forestry and woodland services across the Central / North Scotland area. Operating from a regional office base, your role will centre on overseeing and expanding the delivery of forestry and woodland services.

This is a high-impact position offering the chance to influence regional growth, working closely with the Head of Department to enhance commercial performance, meet financial objectives, and ensure the successful delivery of forestry and arboriculture services across a varied property portfolio.

Location: Based in the Central Scotland Region.

Salary Package: £50,000 - £70,000 Basic Salary Depending on Experience + Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

• Identifying and developing new commercial opportunities, strengthening existing client relationships and contributing to the continued expansion of the forestry and woodland service offering.
• Providing professional advice on the management, improvement and long-term value of woodland assets, including wider estate and land management considerations.
• Taking responsibility for financial planning, budget preparation, expenditure monitoring, forecasting and ensuring projects are delivered in line with agreed commercial targets.
• Leading, supporting and developing colleagues, providing guidance, mentoring and regular performance feedback to help build capability and maintain high professional standards.
• Preparing and reviewing long-term woodland management strategies, ensuring plans reflect environmental, commercial, regulatory and client objectives.
• Supporting the identification, design and delivery of new woodland creation schemes, from initial feasibility and planning through to implementation and ongoing establishment.
• Preparing and managing Forestry Grant Scheme applications, ensuring grant conditions are understood, deadlines are met and associated works are delivered and recorded appropriately.
• Overseeing timber harvesting programmes, including operational planning, contractor coordination, timber sales, marketing and ensuring harvesting activity is commercially and environmentally appropriate.
• Managing restocking, woodland establishment and ongoing maintenance programmes, ensuring works are completed to the required specification and woodland health is maintained.
• Using GIS and associated digital systems to produce and maintain accurate woodland maps, asset records, management information and supporting data.
• Advising on and maintaining compliance with relevant woodland and forest certification standards, ensuring appropriate records, procedures and management practices are in place.
• Undertaking or overseeing tree safety inspections, preparing works schedules and coordinating remedial activity to manage risk and maintain safe environments.
• Delivering BS 5837 tree surveys and arboriculture advice in relation to construction and development projects, including assessment of tree constraints and potential impacts.
• Supporting development-related work through the preparation of Woodland Impact Assessments, tree and woodland constraints advice and crop compensation assessments.
• Advising on emerging woodland and environmental opportunities, including rewilding, carbon offsetting and projects aligned with the Woodland Carbon Code.

Management Responsibilities:

• Establish clear, measurable goals that support the wider business strategy, monitoring progress and taking appropriate action to ensure performance remains on track.
• You will conduct regular 121 meetings, hold team meetings and complete probationary, interim and annual appraisals as per company guidance.

Candidate Requirements:

• Experience working in a forestry consultant role or similar position.
• Relevant industry qualifications (BSc/MSc, Forestry, MICFor).
• Actively support the development of individuals and teams, helping to enhance capability and overall performance.
• Maintain a strong focus on delivering high-quality outcomes for clients.
• Have the ability to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels, representing the organisation in a positive and professional manner.
