About the Company: Our client operates a progressive dairy enterprise within a wider mixed farming business in Pembrokeshire. Currently milking approximately 220 cows, the business is investing in robotic milking technology and is focused on combining excellent stockmanship with innovation, sustainability, data and continuous improvement.

The Job Role Details:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dairy Herd Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management, welfare and performance of the dairy herd. Working closely with the Head of Farming, you will use herd data and performance information to drive improvements in milk production, fertility, herd health and overall efficiency. This role would suit an innovative and commercially aware dairy professional who is confident with facts and figures and keen to embrace new technology and modern farming practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the dairy herd to high standards of animal welfare and husbandry
  • Monitor and improve milk production, fertility, herd health and longevity
  • Oversee calving, youngstock development and colostrum management
  • Analyse herd KPIs, performance data and trends to identify areas for improvement
  • Utilise herd management software and robotic milking data to support decision-making
  • Support the implementation and optimisation of robotic milking technology
  • Work closely with vets, nutritionists, breeding advisors and other external specialists
  • Support grazing management, sustainability and environmental objectives
  • Lead, support and develop members of the farm team
  • Promote high standards of Health & Safety across the dairy operation
  • Drive continuous improvement, efficiency and innovation across the enterprise

Essential Candidate Skills & Experience:

  • Strong practical dairy farming and herd management experience
  • Excellent livestock husbandry and animal welfare knowledge
  • Experience of calving, fertility and herd health management
  • Confident working with herd performance data, KPIs, facts and figures
  • Strong organisational, communication and leadership skills
  • Proactive, innovative and solutions-focused approach
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Experience with robotic milking systems
  • Strong IT and data analysis skills, ideally including Power BI or similar reporting tools
  • Experience using herd management and recording software
  • Knowledge of grazing management and sustainable/regenerative farming practices
  • Agricultural qualification such as HND, Degree or equivalent
  • Previous supervisory or people management experience

Working Hours: Full-time position, with flexibility required in line with the needs of the dairy enterprise and livestock.
