We have an exciting opportunity for an electrically biased Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our team at Agrial Fresh Produce in Wigan. The primary accountability is to provide safe and highly reliable equipment to manufacturing colleagues, achieved through a healthy balance of hands‑on competence, equipment knowledge, analysis of equipment performance and strong communication skills. Our engineers play a vital role in our business, maintaining a range of specialist machinery and equipment throughout our factory site so that we can supply the nation and high‑street retailers with our salads!

Working in small teams on a mixture of planned and reactive maintenance, you will perform cyclical equipment maintenance, troubleshoot issues and make on‑site repairs when needed. The successful candidate will be electrically biased or strongly multi‑skilled across both electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines. Experience of refrigeration, chlorine or compressed air would be a notable advantage, along with an understanding of food safety.

Pay: ÂŁ51,000 per annum

Working hours: Continental Shift - 4 On 4 Off: 7am-7pm/7pm-7am - 2 days/2 nights per shift block.

Main Responsibilities

  • Execute hands‑on planned and unplanned maintenance activities to agreed standards, ensuring safe working always.
  • Ensure that assets are ready to produce products that are of an excellent quality, dispatched on time in full to customers.
  • Ensure a robust and clearly communicated safe system of work is applied for all activities that you undertake – properly risk assessed.
  • Coach and train colleagues in order to provide a thorough understanding to all, with an aim to achieve continual improvements in equipment knowledge and performance.
  • Build a culture of professional engineering and proactive equipment‑focussed continuous improvement with a strong emphasis on integrity.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Technical hands‑on Engineering experience, preferably through recognised time‑served apprenticeship within food manufacturing.
  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 ideally in electrical engineering but also with understanding in mechanical constructs.
  • Technical qualifications and competence in BTEC Engineering certificate/equivalent qualification.
  • Broad knowledge of Pneumatics, Electrical & PLC/Inverter Assets.
  • Skills and capability to logically diagnose and fault find on a variety of equipment/situations.
  • Experience of risk assessing maintenance activity and controlling safe working regulations.
  • Strong evidence of good interpersonal, communications and customer engagement skills.

Agrial Fresh Produce is one of three UK food manufacturing factories within Agrial Fresh Produce Ltd, which is an autonomous part of the larger 22,000 employee strong French co‑operative group, Agrial. Our Wigan site is a well‑established business unit that processes and distributes pre‑packed, ready to eat, fresh salad bags and bowls to some of the UK’s well‑known retailers and restaurants. We are based on Martland Park Industrial Estate, which is ideal for travel on the M61, M6 and M62. The business has other operations in the UK, known commonly with our recognisable Florette salad brand and we are one of the UK’s leading producers in the industry. In total, we sell around 600,000kg of products every week - an unbe-leafable amount!
