We have an exciting opportunity for a HGV Team Leader to join our team at Florette in Lichfield, WS13 8NF. This role will be responsible for on‑road HGV driver accountabilities, overseeing the day‑to‑day activities of HGV drivers to ensure a safe and compliant operation. Be accountable for assessing driver performance, developing driver skills, and enforcing adherence to legal and company transport standards.

Working hours: Night shifts on a 4 on 4 off pattern, 3am/4am start. 12 hour shifts.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct practical and theoretical assessments of HGV drivers to evaluate competence and identify development needs.
  • Implement targeted training and development strategies to enhance performance, safety and efficiency.
  • Coach and mentor drivers, providing constructive feedback to maintain and raise high standards.
  • Ensure all HGV drivers comply with road traffic laws, transport regulations and company policies.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to safety protocols and maintain up to date records in the transport management system.
  • Support the investigation of incidents, accidents and non‑compliance with HGV regulations, recommending and assisting with the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Set clear performance expectations for drivers and monitor KPIs related to safety, efficiency and compliance.
  • Prepare regular management reports on driver performance, incidents, and development initiatives to support continuous improvement and operational accountability.
  • Assist in managing sickness absence, including return to work interviews and provide support with disciplinary matters in line with HR guidance.
  • Address underperformance through positive support, coaching, additional training where necessary, initiating formal action in accordance with procedure and guidance from HR when required.
  • Assist with the recruitment of HGV drivers in line with the Company’s recruitment process.
  • Oversee temporary workers to ensure they perform to the required standards and meet business operational needs.
  • Evaluate the performance of the team using the Company’s appraisal system, including personal development plans.
  • Ensure the team is trained and competent, identifying ongoing training needs to enhance skills and knowledge.

Skills and Experience Required

  • A clean C&E (Class 1) Licence with a minimum of 5 years Class 1 driving experience on UK roads, preferably in food manufacturing or FMCG.
  • A strong understanding of transport regulations and HGV regulations.
  • In depth knowledge of HGV operation and road safety regulations.
  • Ability to train and coach individuals effectively, with excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstratable people leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, inspire and guide teams to achieve their goals.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office and transport management systems.
