This role will involve relocating to Monaco. Our client is a single-family office with a global investment footprint and a strong focus on private equity, public markets, venture and growth capital. They are sector-agnostic, opportunistic, and invest with speed, conviction, and a long-term perspective. Their core investment market is the United States, while they selectively pursue opportunities globally where they can partner with exceptional teams and add differentiated value.
They are seeking an experienced Investment Director to act as a key link between the Principal and the broader investment team. The Investment Director will work closely with the principal and internal teams, overseeing day-to-day investment coordination and execution across asset classes but with a focus on direct private investments, predominantly through direct minority positions, including participation in controlling consortia. Investments may be structured through equity or hybrid instruments, with emphasis on thoughtful governance alignment and long-term value creation. While the vast majority of investments are non-controlling, the office may pursue controlling positions selectively.
The role also includes direct responsibility for managing and mentoring a Senior Associate, ensuring rigorous analysis, high-quality output, and professional development. This is a hands-on, high-responsibility role that requires sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment with limited hierarchy and structure.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the end-to-end private equity investment process, from sourcing and due diligence through execution, portfolio management, and exit, with a focus on direct minority investments, the majority being non-controlling.
- Coordinate and manage due diligence processes (internal and external), support transaction execution, and maintain high-quality investment materials and reporting.
- Serve as a trusted counterpart to external managers, co-investment partners, banks, advisors, and other family offices across geographies.
- Actively engage with other family offices and partners to source and execute co-investment opportunities and direct investments.
- Negotiate and structure governance rights, including veto rights, board representation where appropriate, and other protections for minority positions.
- Ensure disciplined documentation, efficient workflows, and a high level of confidentiality across family office operations.
- Support portfolio monitoring, performance analysis, and ongoing relationship management, with attention to governance participation and minority investment protections.
- Maintain active involvement in portfolio value creation initiatives and exit planning, working closely with management teams, partners, and advisors.
- Travel occasionally for manager meetings, site visits, conferences, and due diligence sessions.
- Handle ad-hoc strategic, analytical, and operational requests from the principal as required.
- 15 to 20 years of relevant professional experience.
- At least 10-15 years of relevant experience in private equity, ideally but not exclusively focused on the lower to middle market segment within a private equity firm or direct investment experience within a sophisticated single-family office, including experience with minority investments and consortium transactions.
- Demonstrated experience structuring and negotiating minority governance rights, shareholder protections, and board representation, as well as working with equity and hybrid instruments.
- Strong investment judgment with the ability to operate independently in a lean, fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to interact confidently with principals, senior executives, and external counterparties.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and high-quality investment memos and briefings.
- High integrity, discretion, and a service-oriented mindset consistent with a single-family office culture.
