Job Description
Powering Progress at Agratas
At Agratas, we are building the future of sustainable energy storage through world-class battery technology. As we expand our expert team, we’re looking for a Senior Cathode Material Engineer to lead the development and optimization of cathode active materials for next-generation lithium-ion batteries.
In this high-impact role, you’ll shape the design, specification, and qualification of cathode materials, collaborating across technical and commercial teams to deliver best-in-class cell performance aligned with Agratas' strategic goals.
The Opportunity
You will be at the forefront of materials innovation—leading sourcing strategies, refining formulations, advancing characterization techniques, and working closely with our suppliers and partners to bring cutting-edge battery technologies to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Cathode Material Selection: Conduct market assessments, screen materials, and lead parameter optimization and down-selection. Align with suppliers on critical material characteristics and performance benchmarks.
- Characterization & Testing: Specify and implement advanced materials and electrochemical characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, XRD, EIS). Innovate and refine analytical methods to evaluate cathode performance.
- Formulation Support: Collaborate with the cathode design team to optimize formulation strategies including binder, additive, and conductive material selection. Inform electrolyte development by assessing material sensitivities.
- Supply Chain Engagement: Define material specifications and analytical requirements to support supplier selection and performance monitoring. Participate in audits, DFMEA processes, and supplier evaluations.
- Manufacturing Interface: Work with production teams to specify materials handling protocols and process parameters to ensure scalable, high-quality material integration.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with procurement, design, supplier quality, and manufacturing teams to meet critical development and production milestones.
- Technical Reporting: Maintain and manage material specifications and provide regular technical reports and insights to internal stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring
- Expertise in Cathode Materials: Proven knowledge of cathode chemistries (NMC, NCA, LFP, etc.), structure–property relationships, synthesis methods, and performance behavior.
- Characterization Mastery: Proficient in key materials and electrochemical testing techniques (SEM, XRD, PSD, cycling, dq/dv, EIS).
- Industry Insight: Familiarity with global cathode supply chains and an understanding of emerging trends and suppliers in the materials landscape.
- Analytical & Technical Agility: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex test data and optimise formulations.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with R&D, quality, and manufacturing teams. Clear communicator in both written and verbal formats.
- Learning Orientation: A continuous learner who stays current with battery materials innovations and technological developments.
Ideal Qualifications
- A degree or PhD in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.
- Industry or academic experience in battery material development, particularly in cathode active materials.
- A passion for bringing advanced battery technologies to commercial scale through scientific and engineering excellence.
