What you’ll do…

You will conduct advanced research and development in Li-ion battery materials, focusing on electrochemical processes to enable next-generation, high-performance cells. This role is central to optimizing cell performance, safety, and lifecycle, and involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop cutting-edge electrochemical solutions for Li-ion technology.

  • Lead R&D in electrochemical processes and material interactions to improve battery cell energy density, cycle life, and efficiency.
  • Develop and refine electrode, electrolyte, and separator materials to enhance ionic conductivity, stability, and compatibility with next-gen battery chemistries.
  • Conduct in-depth electrochemical testing, including cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, and charge/discharge cycling to evaluate material and cell performance.
  • Analyze electrochemical data to identify performance trends and areas for optimisation, applying insights to enhance cell design and material formulations.
  • Work with R&D, cell design, and materials science teams to integrate electrochemical findings into cell prototypes and scale-up processes.
  • Maintain meticulous records of experimental methods, test results, and findings, preparing detailed reports for R&D leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on advances in electrochemical technologies and battery industry trends to continuously bring innovative ideas to development projects.

Agratas is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons. We will design, develop and manufacture high-quality, high-performance, sustainable batteries for the mobility and energy sectors. We are a scale-up business with a start-up mentality and the backing of a well-established parent company. The UK business headquarters is in the Midlands and we are currently building a battery manufacturing facility in Bridgwater, Somerset.

What you’ll bring…

  • Strong background in electrochemical processes, cell reactions, and energy storage principles, with specific experience in Li-ion battery applications.
  • Skilled in electrochemical testing methods (e.g., EIS, CV, cycling) and proficient in data interpretation for material and cell analysis.
  • Understanding of Li-ion battery materials, including electrode and electrolyte chemistries and their effects on cell performance and stability.
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions for electrochemical challenges, optimising processes for improved battery performance.
