Our client is looking for their first Finance Engineer β a hybrid FP&A and finance systems role for someone who wants to build the tools and automations that remove manual work between data and decisions, not just run existing processes. The organisation is scaling its finance function to match its growing programme portfolio. The role reports to the Finance Director, with a dotted line to the Programme Finance Lead, and close cross-functional exposure to Data & Tech and Programme teams.
The role includes:
- Maintain and improve near-term and long-range financial models, forecasts and budgets
- Run quarterly portfolio analysis and translate the numbers into practical insight for leadership
- Prepare board-ready reporting packages
- Map how financial and operational data flows across systems and teams, and design repeatable workflows to reduce manual data collection, reconciliation and reporting
- Connect and structure data from finance and operational systems so outputs are reliable, transparent and auditable
- Define and document financial logic, data definitions, assumptions, controls and review points
- Use spreadsheets, FP&A/visualisation tools, workflow automation, AI, and where appropriate SQL, Python or APIs to build practical solutions
- Lead hands-on experimentation with generative AI tools within Finance, focused on controlled, valuable use cases
- Use AI to accelerate data prep, first-pass analysis, anomaly detection and narrative reporting, while retaining appropriate financial judgement
- Lead ad-hoc projects to help the finance team scale
About you:
- Fully or part-qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA or equivalent), or equivalent FP&A/finance experience
- Strong FP&A/budgeting/forecasting background with solid finance, accounting and compliance fundamentals
- Comfortable learning and using AI coding/automation tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cowork or similar) to build working tools β no formal software engineering background required, but genuine curiosity and follow-through are essential
- Experience with at least one ERP/GL or FP&A platform, with a track record of pushing it beyond out-of-the-box functionality
- Able to manage own workload and judge when to build something yourself vs. elevate to engineering/IT
- Adaptable, comfortable in a fast-changing environment within a small, high-performing team
Desirable:
- Scenario planning experience
- Familiarity with APIs/MCP/native integrations
- Basic SQL
- Experience with low-code builders (e.g. Lovable, Retool) or scripting
- A portfolio of tools/automations built and shipped
- Experience within finance governance/audit structures
- Exposure to start-up/scale-up systems and BI tools (Tableau, Power BI)
