About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated lawyer to join our dynamic legal team in Bangkok. This position suits a regulatory lawyer, litigator, or commercial lawyer with significant consumer law knowledge who is keen to cover a broad area of work and multiple jurisdictions. The successful candidate will dedicate approximately 80% of their time to consumer law work—including front‑end requirements/compliance, marketing campaign reviews, working with our Product team on new features/initiatives/projects, and general consumer law compliance/training—and litigation matters. The remaining time will focus on supporting new and existing technology law requirements, licensing requirements, competition law, and providing general commercial legal support.
In This Role, You\’ll Get To
Regulatory and Litigation – Consumer Law Focus
- Advisory Services: Provide expert legal advice on consumer protection laws to ensure compliance with local regulations, and offer general commercial legal advice in relation to commercial matters.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and interpret changes in consumer protection, licensing and technology laws, advising the business on necessary adjustments.
- Investigations and Audits: Conduct internal investigations and audits to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws; conduct assurance activities related to regulatory changes across the Agoda platforms.
- Front End Scanning: Take ownership of delivering front‑end scanning covering assigned countries and/or areas, collaborating with other teams within Legal and beyond.
- Competition Law Issues: Provide assistance with competition law issues and general regulatory matters on an ad‑hoc basis. Candidates without the necessary experience should be willing to learn.
- Litigation Support: Assist in the preparation and management of litigation and dispute resolution matters worldwide. Candidates without prior litigation experience should be eager to learn.
- Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate legal risks associated with the business covering a wide variety of regulatory areas, primarily focusing on consumer law. Work through innovative risk mitigation strategies with business partners and appropriate escalations.
- Training and Education: Help to develop and deliver training programs for staff on consumer protection laws and other regulatory compliance requirements (e.g. licensing/technology law and general regulatory matters).
General Commercial Support
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including supplier agreements, service contracts, and partnership agreements, providing general commercial contract advice.
- Legal Research: Conduct legal research on various commercial law issues and provide actionable advice and strategy to the business.
- Policy Development: Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and best practices.
What You\’ll Need To Succeed
- Legal professional with 4‑7+ years PQE consumer or tech regulatory, litigation or commercial lawyer with consumer law focus and significant APAC-wide experience.
- Able to provide well‑reasoned, practical legal advice on a wide range of matters, with a clear focus on consumer law, related regulatory issues, litigation and general commercial matters.
- Able to communicate effectively with key business teams, global legal team and external counsel.
- Self‑starter who can take forward matters with appropriate supervision.
- Contribute to new policies, procedures, training, and templates with the goal of fostering efficiency and compliance.
- Experience in litigation and/or competition law would be a distinct advantage.
It\’s Great If You Have
- EU experience would be beneficial as would a legal qualification in a common law jurisdiction.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent academic credentials, experience working in a top‑tier law firm and preferably in-house at an MNC.
- Experience with EU Digital Services Act an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a large diverse team.
- A demonstrated can‑do, roll‑up‑your‑sleeves, collaborative approach, coupled with a strong work ethic and sound judgment.
- Excellent communication and legal drafting skills (verbal and written) in English.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with travel industry/technology/fintech a plus.
- High level of integrity and professional ethics.
