SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER | FRONTEND, GOV.UK DESIGN SYSTEM | REMOTE, OCCASIONAL MANCHESTER

Central Government Digital Service β€” Β£500 per day inside IR35 β€” Start ASAP

THE ROLE

A frontend-weighted engineering seat on a public-facing government digital service built to the GOV.UK Design System, and it goes deeper than the front end. The client's own title for the role is Senior Frontend Developer, at SFIA 5. You will be working in Nunjucks and the GOV.UK pattern library, in React and Node where the service needs it, and into a Java service layer underneath.

If you have built a government service you will recognise the stack immediately. If you have not, the Java half of this will tell you quickly whether it is for you.

YOU WILL

  • Work in Nunjucks against the GOV.UK Design System, and in Freemarker where the Java layer templates

  • Develop in ReactJS and Node.js across the service

  • Work into the Java 11 service layer β€” Spring Boot, Dropwizard, Jersey, CXF and Maven

  • Manage styling at scale with Bootstrap, LESS and SASS

  • Own your code through the pipeline β€” Git, GitLab CI, Jenkins and SonarQube quality gates

  • Work alongside backend engineers, designers, content and user research in a multidisciplinary team

WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Comfortable in a service with a Java backend rather than a pure frontend codebase
