A UK central government programme is hiring a senior technical architect to work on digital credentials issued to citizens' phones, and to bring departmental services into a government mobile app.

Fully remote. SFIA 5.

The package

  • £575 per day
  • Inside IR35
  • Fully remote
  • BPSS, with SC eligibility required — no existing clearance needed
  • 6 months initially, with strong extension potential

What you will do

  • Shape the technical architecture for common components supporting app-native journeys and digital credentials
  • Produce the high-level and low-level designs engineers build from
  • Initiate best-practice DevOps tooling and work with engineers to review how well it lands
  • Take the team's architecture through technical governance forums
  • Bring legacy, strategic and modern applications together into one set of journeys
  • Work across AWS, GCP and Azure
  • Work within strategic and enterprise architecture constraints

What you need

  • Significant experience under a technical or solution architect job title
  • Strong experience of working inside a UK government department — required
  • Experience of cross-department integration work — required
  • Authentication and authorisation design using OIDC, OAuth2 or SAML
  • Architecture across more than one public cloud — AWS, GCP and Azure are all in play
  • Experience of taking designs through a design authority or architecture review board
  • Digital credential standards such as OID4VC and mDoc are a strong advantage but are not expected — very few people have them yet.
