A leading international law firm is seeking a Senior PSL / Knowledge Lawyer to join its Financial Regulation practice in London. This is a newly created role sitting at the heart of a genuinely global fin reg practice with significant strength across the UK, Europe and beyond. This is not a traditional knowledge lawyer role. The firm places real weight on its expertise function, and this position carries meaningful responsibility: shaping the practice's thought leadership, driving client engagement, developing its lawyers and embedding a culture of knowledge sharing across an international team.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior practice leadership and will be jointly accountable for developing and executing the expertise strategy for the UK and European practice.

The core of the work sits across four areas:

  • Thought leadership — staying ahead of regulatory developments, producing high-quality client publications, briefings and analysis, and contributing to articles for trade press and the firm’s own platforms.
  • Client engagement — participating in pitches and training, supporting the development of client strategies and identifying cross‑selling opportunities across practices and regions.
  • Legal learning — building and maintaining a training programme that keeps lawyers at all levels current, developing junior lawyers through coaching and mentoring, and creating materials that are genuinely engaging rather than formulaic.
  • Knowledge infrastructure — developing and maintaining precedents, guides and know‑how resources, and identifying technology and AI tools that improve how the practice works.

The role also carries a broader remit to contribute to firm wide expertise initiatives and to help raise the practice’s profile externally through relationships with trade bodies, regulators and professional networks.

You will be qualified in the UK or an EU jurisdiction with technical proficiency at counsel or partner level. You will have meaningful experience across key areas of UK and European financial services regulation — MiFID, CRD/CRR, AIFMD, financial crime, payments, sustainability or FinTech — and a genuine interest in the financial services sector rather than a passing familiarity with it.

Equally important is how you work. You will be confident building relationships across a complex organisation, proactive in identifying opportunities, and genuinely enthusiastic about developing other lawyers. Strong written communication is essential — this role involves producing work that goes directly to clients and into the market. Prior experience in a similar expertise or knowledge lawyer role, or a senior fee‑earner looking to make a considered transition, would both be well suited to this position.

This is a high‑profile role within a well‑resourced and strategically important practice at a firm with genuine global reach. It offers real scope to shape something, not simply maintain it.

Please send your CV and a brief note in confidence to james@agnewobrien.com or apply via this website. Only applicants who meet the stated requirements will be contacted.
