This is a replacement hire within an established offshore litigation practice in the British Virgin Islands, created to reinforce senior advocacy capability within a busy, court-facing team. The practice is instructed on complex, high-value international disputes and requires a lawyer able to take responsibility for written and oral advocacy on fast-moving matters. The role is designed for litigators seeking sustained exposure to contested proceedings and meaningful courtroom responsibility, rather than a short-term or lifestyle-driven offshore move.
Scope of work includes:
- Acting on substantial commercial, company, shareholder, insolvency, trusts and fraud disputes
- Regular involvement in urgent and contested interim applications
- Drafting pleadings, evidence, applications and written submissions
- Conducting oral advocacy before the BVI Commercial Court and appellate courts
- Providing advocacy cover and senior support on complex matters
- Working closely with partners on litigation strategy, evidence and case management
Candidate profile:
- 5 to 12 years’ post-qualification experience
- Admitted barrister in England and Wales or the BVI, or England and Wales solicitor advocate with substantial contentious experience
- Strong, demonstrable experience of conducting written and oral advocacy
- Proven track record in fast-paced, high-stakes commercial litigation
- Experience of interim remedies, insolvency or asset-related disputes preferred
- Offshore or British Overseas Territory litigation experience advantageous
- Willing and able to be based full-time in the British Virgin Islands
