A respected US law firm is seeking to add further partner-level capability to its London arbitration team as part of the continued strategic growth of the practice. With the firm committed to developing a diverse London arbitration partnership, and with females currently underrepresented at partner level within the team, expressions of interest from suitably qualified women are therefore particularly encouraged. This includes junior partners who are beginning to establish an independent practice and have some portable client relationships or an emerging following. The opportunity is however open to all suitably qualified candidates, with appointments made on merit.

The firm has a highly regarded international disputes practice encompassing international commercial arbitration, investor-state disputes and public international law. Its lawyers act for corporations, financial institutions, investors, governments and state-owned entities in complex, high-value proceedings across the major arbitral institutions and jurisdictions. The London team works closely with disputes lawyers across the firm’s international network, providing a strong platform for developing cross-border work and client relationships.

The firm is interested in speaking with both established practitioners and more junior partners who are in the earlier stages of developing their own practices. With respect to the latter, you will not require a substantial or fully mature book of business; however, applicants should be able to demonstrate some portable work and/or client relationships allied to an emerging market profile. Candidates may focus on international commercial arbitration, investor-state disputes or a combination of the two. Complementary sector expertise, international relationships and geographic strengths will also be welcomed.

The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate:

  • A strong track record in complex international arbitration;
  • Experience of leading matters and managing senior client relationships;
  • Some portable work, client following or demonstrable origination experience;
  • A credible business case and clear ambition to develop their practice;
  • The ability to build relationships and generate opportunities across jurisdictions;
  • A collaborative approach suited to an integrated international firm.

This is an opportunity to join a sophisticated international disputes platform offering a strong global brand, an established client base and a clear commitment to further investment in London. Remuneration and the structure of the appointment will reflect the successful candidate’s experience, practice and business case.
