Abels are proud members of BAR (British Association of Removers) and our house moving teams specialise both in moving antiques and specialist items such as pianos, grandfather clocks, fine art alongside day to day household items and furniture, always delivering the utmost care and attention, ensuring everything runs smoothly and guaranteeing our customer’s peace of mind.
We are now looking for experienced, enthusiastic and reliable Summer Porters to join our team based in Ely for the summer period (commence from end of June) on a temporary basis. Summer Porters are to support the drivers and other Removal Operatives in all aspects of the removal / relocation operation. Demonstrate a positive attitude with customers, other colleagues and to handle furniture and effects in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all items are stored correctly
- Maintain a high standard of removals skills
- Handle, lift, pack, load and unload furniture, household, office and commercial effects correctly, carefully and professionally
- Assist in ensuring that the vehicle and the equipment are continually in a tidy, secure and well maintained condition
- Provide and correctly complete all necessary paperwork with particular reference to inventories
- Ensure all goods are clearly identified using the correct procedures
- Ensure accuracy on all relevant documentation
- Ensure company training techniques, policies and procedures are adhered to with regards to manual handling, Health and Safety, kinetic lifting and packing and loading
- Assess and monitor health and safety risks within the role and minimise danger to self and others; be aware of the consequences/effects of own work on others
- Demonstrate a positive and co-operative attitude to work
- Assist the Driver in reversing (Banksperson)
- Fulfil any other duties required by the company
Essential
- Full UK drivers licence (No more than 3 points)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong organisational skills
Desirable
- Previous removals experience
- Valid Passport (for potential European travel)
- Multilingual skills
- Computer literate
