We are seeking an AI and IT Manager to support our AI journey. This role bridges technical understanding, project management, and internal engagement. You will work closely with a junior AI engineer, coordinate small AI initiatives, help shape our emerging AI strategy, and champion AI awareness across the organisation. You will also work alongside the COO and our third-party IT providers to help drive IT initiatives, set up new joiner equipment, and help troubleshoot IT problems. This is a visible, collaborative position that requires curiosity, communication, and a genuine interest in helping colleagues explore AI opportunities responsibly and effectively.
Company: Agilia is a specialist infrastructure consultancy operating at the forefront of some of the most exciting and challenging infrastructure projects in the UK and across the world. Established in 2017, our team now comprises a growing number of infrastructure professionals with experience covering all major infrastructure sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- AI Strategy & Project Leadership: Support the development and refinement of the company's AI strategy, including identifying opportunities, risks, and priority areas. Lead small, well-defined AI projects from ideation through implementation and evaluation. Translate high-level business needs into actionable AI tasks and project plans. Ensure AI initiatives align with business goals, compliance standards, and ethical considerations.
- Technical Work & Collaboration: Work closely with the junior AI engineer to scope tasks, troubleshoot issues, and ensure projects progress effectively. Develop prototypes, small automations, and proof-of-concept tools using Python and common AI/ML libraries (e.g., OpenAI APIs, basic ML pipelines, retrieval tools). Understand the technical dimension of all AI projects enough to explain the concepts to non-technical colleagues, evaluate feasibility of new ideas, make informed recommendations, and participate actively in technical conversations. Maintain lightweight documentation, technical notes, and project records.
- Internal Communication & Advocacy: Proactively publicise AI work inside the company: what we’ve built, what we are exploring, and what is coming next. Communicate the AI team’s availability, priorities, and processes so colleagues know how to engage with AI initiatives. Ensure employees feel comfortable approaching the AI team with ideas, questions, and challenges. Present updates in all-hands meetings, newsletters, or informal sessions to raise awareness and spark engagement.
- Idea Intake & Constructive Conversations: Serve as the main point of contact for colleagues with AI-related suggestions. Facilitate constructive, respectful conversations about feasibility, potential impact, and next steps. Help refine raw ideas into actionable concepts or, when appropriate, tactfully explain why an approach may not be viable (and offer alternatives). Maintain a healthy pipeline of ideas, assessing and prioritising them transparently.
- Culture Building & Responsible AI: Encourage safe, ethical, and practical use of AI tools across the business. Support training efforts, best-practice sharing, and informal coaching. Champion a culture of experimentation while ensuring projects remain aligned with regulations and company values.
- IT Management: Work alongside the COO on developing the company's long-term IT strategy. Set up equipment for new joiners. Maintain software licenses. Maintain the company's relationship with our third-party IT providers.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience in a role related to technology, data, digital operations, or technical project management (experience with AI is a plus but not mandatory).
- Proficiency with Python, including the ability to build small scripts, automate tasks, and work with APIs.
- Understanding of modern AI concepts (LLMs, prompt engineering, model evaluation, basic ML principles).
- Strong communication skills — able to translate technical concepts into plain English.
- Demonstrated ability to run small projects or manage deliverables.
- Comfortable engaging colleagues at all levels, listening to ideas, and guiding discussions constructively.
- Curiosity, adaptability, and a genuine interest in applied AI.
