We’re looking for a Principal Architect – Governance & Assurance to join our Engineering leadership team and play a critical role in shaping how architecture and engineering standards are applied across the organisation. This is a high-impact leadership position responsible for driving architectural governance, engineering quality, and assurance practices across complex, high-availability systems. You’ll translate business strategy into practical guardrails, standards, and patterns that ensure our platforms remain scalable, secure, and resilient. You’ll also lead a small centre of excellence, working across multiple teams to elevate technical consistency and delivery quality.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead and evolve the organisation’s architecture governance and assurance function
- Define and enforce architecture standards, guardrails, and engineering best practices
- Own the governance of architectural exceptions, ensuring risks are identified and managed effectively
- Translate business strategy into actionable assurance frameworks aligned to engineering delivery
- Produce clear, data-driven reporting for senior leadership on compliance, risk, and value
- Act as a trusted partner to Solution Architects and delivery teams—supporting, not policing
- Represent the assurance function in cross-functional governance forums
- Drive continuous improvement culture within the architecture and engineering community
- Mentor and coach engineers and architects to improve technical quality and consistency
Core Experience:
- Proven experience as a Principal, Lead, or Senior Architect in large-scale environments
- Strong background in architecture governance, assurance, or engineering quality frameworks
- Experience working across enterprise-scale, high-availability systems
Technical & Architectural Expertise:
- Broad architecture knowledge across one or more domains: Enterprise, Solution, Application, Infrastructure, or Data Architecture
- Strong understanding of: Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), Modern engineering practices (CI/CD, DevSecOps, APIs, microservices), Security and resilience principles
- Ability to guide teams on: System design, Refactoring approaches, Deployment pipelines, Engineering standards
Leadership & Influence:
- Experience leading architecture communities or centres of excellence
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels
- Comfortable balancing commercial priorities, risk, and technical excellence
- Proven ability to align business and technology stakeholders around a shared vision
