Job Description
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Compliance Counsel to join our global legal team who is dedicated to enabling business and driving operational excellence. This role will be pivotal in supporting our compliance strategy and frameworks across the Americas and EMEA, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, managing legal risks, and fostering a culture of Uncompromising Integrity and ethical conduct. The ideal candidate will be forward‑looking, consistently anticipating challenges and opportunities to ensure the success of the business.
The candidate must be a qualified attorney in the UK or Ireland, with significant cross-border compliance experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Framework & Risk Management: Monitor and analyze legal and regulatory developments related to compliance across assigned regions. Lead the implementation of compliance frameworks, with a focus on anti-bribery, anti-corruption, sanctions, anti-money laundering (AML), competition law, healthcare compliance, and third‑party risk management. Support as required other regulatory compliance work including data protection, privacy, and AI governance for the Americas and EMEA region. Conduct regional risk assessments and develop tailored mitigation strategies. Prepare and present compliance reports for senior leadership and regulatory authorities as needed.
- Policy Development & Training: Draft, review, and maintain global and regional compliance policies. Design and deliver compliance training, education, and communication programs for Agilent employees, managers, and distributors in the covered regions.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with commercial teams and compliance operations to integrate compliance into core business processes. Support internal audits and investigations within the assigned regions. Act as a trusted advisor to regional leadership on compliance‑related matters. Foster strong working relationships with legal team members and other key stakeholders.
- External Engagement: Coordinate with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies as required. Represent Agilent in industry forums and compliance networks.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK, Ireland, or equivalent jurisdiction.
- Minimum 10 years of post‑qualification experience, with at least 3 years in a compliance‑focused role.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks in both the Americas and EMEA.
- Experience in multinational or highly regulated industries preferred (e.g. medical device, pharma, life science).
- Experience in data protection, privacy or AI regulations is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex and cross‑border legal compliance issues.
- Excellent drafting, communication, analytical and stakeholder management skills.
- High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
Expected Attributes
- Multilingual capabilities (especially Spanish, French or German) are a plus.
- Experience with compliance technology tools and data analytics is a plus.
- Ability to work independently by taking ownership of the work and proactively identifying learning opportunities and challenges.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity and complex situations and demonstrate resilience and clarity in decision‑making.
- Ability to demonstrate strong judgment in assessing legal and business risks, balancing compliance with practical business needs.
