Based in Church Stretton, England, this R&D team is part of the Chemistries and Supplies Division (CSD), focusing on developing advanced polymeric and silica particle technologies for chromatography, clinical diagnostics, and pharmaceutical and biopharma applications. We are seeking an Expert-level R&D Scientist with deep technical expertise in this field to drive innovation, solve complex, high-impact technical challenges, and influence long-term technology strategy across the division.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the technical lead to drive innovations across chromatography, diagnostics, and biopharma consumables.
- Independently initiate, design, and execute complex polymer synthesis, particle manufacture and surface functionalization, applying advanced analytical, materials characterization techniques.
- Lead or make significant contributions to major, high-visibility R&D projects. Provide expert guidance to R&D, manufacturing, and cross‐functional partners.
- Provide leadership in technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing, ensuring robustness, scalability, cost‐effectiveness, and reproducibility of polymer particle processes from lab‐scale prototypes to full production.
- Act as an internal consultant and escalation point for solving critical, high‐impact product, process, or materials issues that exceed standard R&D or manufacturing capabilities.
- Help define and influence long‐term technology strategies and roadmaps for polymeric or silica particle technologies aligned with CSD and Agilent business objectives.
- Prepare and deliver high‐impact technical presentations to senior leadership and cross‐functional stakeholders, influencing strategic decisions.
- Lead and contribute to intellectual property generation, including invention disclosures and patent applications.
- Function as a technical mentor, trainer, and functional lead, strengthening scientific capability and technical excellence across the organization.
- Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Typically 8+ years of relevant experience with demonstrated depth and breadth of expertise across polymer/organic synthesis, polymeric particle manufacturing, surface functionalization, and materials characterization techniques.
- Working knowledge of the chromatography and biopharma applications.
- Proven track record of solving complex, high‐impact technical problems and delivering innovative solutions that advance product performance and business outcomes.
- Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary technical efforts and developing new product or technology strategies.
- Strong communication skills, capable of influencing and translating complex technical concepts into clear, business‐relevant insights.
- A senior technical role with significant influence on Agilent's technology direction and product portfolio.
