We are currently looking for an Optical Design Engineer Intern to join our Raman spectroscopy R&D team for a 12-month placement. In this position, you will be embedded in the multi-disciplinary R&D team based at the Harwell Scientific Campus, which is focused on developing systems such as the Vaya Raw Material ID system that won an R&D 100 award.

If you love Optical Design, have a positive demeanour and pay attention to detail, we want to hear from you! This opportunity will give you a mix of design, experimentation and analysis skills, specifically with lasers, CCDs and Raman Spectroscopy systems, in our dedicated laser labs, working alongside a team of dedicated and enthusiastic scientists and engineers.

Qualifications

  • As this is an Intern position, you need to be studying a course in an applicable field at University and will be returning to that same course upon completion of the internship.
  • No prior experience required; may have up to 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent record keeping, attention to detail, teamwork and communication skills is key.

Any of the following skills would also be desirable:

  • Experience in data collection, analysis & visualisation
  • Experience in building and designing laser/optical breadboards/experiments
  • Documenting research and informing application/product design decisions
  • Optical Design in Zemax
  • Analysis using python/R/Matlab
  • Knowledge/experience of optics
  • Knowledge/experience with Raman spectroscopy
