We are seeking an experienced AI Engineer to join our expanding UK team, based in London with a hybrid working model. This senior or lead-level role offers an exciting opportunity to work on high-impact AI projects at scale, collaborating closely with top-tier clients and internal teams. The position involves designing and architecting complex AI orchestration layers that facilitate reliable and scalable deployment of large language models (LLMs) and multi-agent systems. Unlike roles focused solely on model training, this position emphasizes building robust production systems, integrating various AI components such as retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, vector databases, and agentic workflows.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in tackling some of the most technically demanding AI challenges in the industry, including multi-agent systems, retrieval-augmented workflows, and enterprise-grade evaluation frameworks. This role requires a hands-on approach, combining software craftsmanship with innovative AI engineering to deliver solutions that are both technically sound and commercially viable.

Qualifications

  • Extensive hands-on experience working with LLM APIs, understanding their capabilities, limitations, and failure modes.
  • Practical knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, vector databases, knowledge graphs, and prompt engineering.
  • Experience in developing multi-step LLM workflows and agentic systems, utilizing frameworks like LangGraph, Strands, or custom implementations.
  • Proficiency in Python, with experience in developing production APIs and services, along with familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment strategies.
  • Strong data manipulation skills using tools like pandas and SQL, coupled with experience in evaluating LLM-based systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments, optimizing non-deterministic systems through experimentation while balancing latency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop production-grade AI systems integrating LLMs, RAG pipelines, vector databases, and agentic frameworks to meet client requirements.
  • Create and implement evaluation and observability frameworks to monitor system performance, accuracy, and reliability, ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Implement retrieval systems, including ingestion pipelines, chunking strategies, and advanced techniques such as HyDE, to optimize data retrieval and processing.
  • Build and maintain robust production AI applications, ensuring clean code, comprehensive error handling, and well-designed APIs and data pipelines.
  • Develop and optimize prompts, balancing latency, cost, and quality considerations across different model providers.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to translate complex technical requirements into scalable and trusted AI products.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary ranging from £80,000 to £110,000, commensurate with experience and level.
  • Participation in a company bonus scheme that rewards performance and contribution.
  • Personalized learning and development budget to support continuous professional growth.
  • Choice of high-quality equipment, including Mac or PC, along with necessary accessories.
  • A collaborative and inclusive work environment where your technical insights are valued from day one.
  • Support and investment to pursue innovative ideas and accelerate your career progression.
  • Exposure to pioneering AI projects across multiple sectors, working with enterprise clients and industry leaders.
