About The Role
As a Senior Java Backend Engineer, you will design, develop, and optimize real-time, low-latency data processing solutions. You will help build services that capture, transform, and distribute high volumes of transactional data while maintaining strong standards for performance, reliability, and scalability. The role calls for more than eight years of backend development experience, substantial Java expertise, and a practical understanding of event-driven architectures and streaming technologies.
You will work across application and data layers, contributing to microservices, APIs, and distributed components. Your work will include design and implementation as well as performance analysis, production support, and collaboration with engineering colleagues. The role is a strong fit for someone comfortable taking ownership of complex technical problems and translating system requirements into resilient solutions.
Qualifications
Candidates should bring at least eight years of backend application development experience using Java, including strong hands-on skills with Java 17 or later, Spring Boot, and microservices. Relevant experience designing low-latency systems and supporting platforms that process high volumes of events or transactions is essential. You should understand real-time data synchronization and be able to identify and address performance constraints in distributed applications.
Experience with Apache Kafka, Kafka Streams, and Kafka Connect is required, along with knowledge of asynchronous messaging and event-driven design. Familiarity with Change Data Capture (CDC), including Debezium or comparable technologies, is important. Applicants should also bring experience with concurrency, JVM tuning, latency analysis, SQL, and data engineering fundamentals. Practical knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and at least one major cloud platform, such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, is expected. Experience with observability tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, or Grafana and strong English communication skills are also valued.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant backend applications and real-time data processing services using Java and Spring Boot. Develop APIs and microservices that support responsive, reliable data exchange, and implement event-driven solutions with messaging and streaming technologies. Architect distributed systems to handle high throughput while minimizing processing latency.
Analyze application behavior and improve performance through profiling, JVM tuning, concurrency practices, and efficient resource utilization. Apply appropriate resilience patterns, including caching, asynchronous processing, and circuit breakers. Contribute to code reviews and promote maintainable engineering practices. Monitor services, investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and work with colleagues to deliver improvements across the platform.
