About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a prominent Defence organization based in Barrow-in-Furness as an HR Advisor, specifically focusing on Case Coaching. The role is a 12‑month initial contract, offering a hybrid working arrangement with 2–3 days on‑site per week. The position involves providing expert employee relations advice, supporting the organization in managing complex and high‑risk employee cases. It is a specialized role that requires a deep understanding of employment law, unionised environments, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will play a vital part in fostering a compliant, fair, and productive workplace culture while balancing the critical operational needs of the business.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will possess a CIPD Level 5 qualification or above, demonstrating a solid foundation in HR practices and employment law.
  • Proven experience in managing a large volume of employee relations cases within a unionised environment is essential.
  • The candidate should have strong ER discipline expertise, with the ability to interpret and apply UK employment legislation effectively.
  • Excellent judgment and problem‑solving skills are required to navigate complex employee issues, providing legally sound advice.
  • Additionally, experience working with diverse stakeholders and maintaining professionalism in high‑pressure situations is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance and coaching on employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and organisational policies.
  • Manage a high‑volume case workload, including disciplinary, grievance, redundancy, and performance management cases.
  • Offer legally sound advice to managers and employees, promoting a fair and consistent approach across the organisation.
  • Work collaboratively with union representatives and other stakeholders to resolve employee issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Support managers in conducting investigations, disciplinary hearings, and other HR processes with professionalism and integrity.
  • Maintain accurate case records and documentation in line with company and legal requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures related to employee relations.
  • Stay updated on changes in employment law and best HR practices to ensure organisational compliance.
