About The Role

We are now looking for an Android Developer to join our Commercial Development team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The Commercial Development team is responsible for building systems that support advertising on theguardian.com and our mobile applications. Our systems are designed to sustain the Guardian's growth and financial sustainability by delivering a meaningful return on investment for advertisers, while maintaining the integrity and relevance of our advertising content for our readers. As an Android Developer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our mobile advertising capabilities, ensuring seamless user experiences, and maintaining high-quality code standards.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Android development with proven experience in building and maintaining mobile applications.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin is essential, with a good understanding of Java being advantageous.
  • You should have experience working in collaborative development environments, familiarity with Agile methodologies, and a solid understanding of mobile app architecture and design principles.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to evolving project requirements are key attributes for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Developing new features and functionality for The Guardian’s Android apps, as well as maintaining and improving existing components.
  • Involved in coding, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality deliverables.

  • Participate in code reviews, contribute to technical documentation, and ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards.
