About The Role
We are looking for an experienced SQL Development & Data Warehouse Consultant to support one of our defence clients on an initial 2-month contract. The consultant will support the design, development and maintenance of SQL-based data warehouse and reporting solutions within a secure defence environment. The role will focus primarily on SQL development, data warehouse design, data integration and BI/reporting support, with a strong emphasis on creating validated, reliable datasets for downstream reporting and analytics. The successful consultant will work closely with source data SMEs, business analysts, technical teams and end users to understand complex requirements and deliver robust data solutions.
Your Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain SQL-based data warehouse solutions to support operational and analytical reporting.
- Develop and enhance data warehouse structures, including Data Vault and dimensional data mart models.
- Build and maintain SQL objects including tables, views, indexes, stored procedures and data loading logic.
- Support the development of metadata-driven SQL frameworks used to generate warehouse and dimensional model outputs.
- Develop and maintain data integration processes to connect, conform and validate data from multiple source systems.
- Support the creation of trusted, validated data sources for business reporting and analytics.
- Work with source data SMEs to understand data structures, business rules, data quality issues and transformation requirements.
- Collaborate with business analysts and end user teams to translate reporting requirements into technical data solutions.
- Support semantic/data access layers used to serve data into BI and reporting tools.
- Develop or support dashboards used for ETL monitoring, performance tracking, error identification and data reliability.
- Investigate and resolve data quality, ETL, performance and reporting issues.
- Engage with stakeholders across multiple client teams and business units.
- Produce clear documentation and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams where required.
About You
It would be ideal if you would have…
- Strong hands-on SQL development experience, ideally with SQL Server.
- Strong experience designing, building and maintaining SQL-based data warehouse solutions.
- Experience with database design, relational modelling and dimensional data modelling.
- Good understanding of Data Vault and/or Kimball-style dimensional modelling.
- Experience developing SQL objects such as tables, views, indexes, stored procedures and loading procedures.
- Experience working with ETL/data integration processes across multiple source systems.
- Ability to design and support validated datasets for operational, analytical and BI reporting.
- Strong data analysis skills, including data profiling, validation, reconciliation and issue investigation.
- BI/reporting experience, ideally with Tableau or similar reporting tools.
- Ability to work with business analysts, source system SMEs and end users to understand complex requirements.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to work independently in a client-facing environment and deliver to tight deadlines.
- Experience working in complex, regulated or secure environments.

- Experience with Qlik Compose or similar data warehouse automation tooling.
- Experience with Tibco Data Virtualisation or similar semantic/data virtualisation layers.

- Experience creating dashboards for ETL monitoring, performance tracking, error reporting and data quality monitoring.
- Microsoft Azure data experience.
- Experience working in Agile and/or waterfall delivery environments.
