About The Role
We are looking for an experienced SQL Development & BI Consultant to support one of our defence clients on an initial 2-month contract. The consultant will support the delivery of enterprise-wide data and BI solutions within a secure defence environment. The role will focus on SQL development, data integration, ETL, data modelling and reporting, helping to integrate data from multiple enterprise systems and transform it into trusted, actionable insight for business stakeholders.
Your Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders, analysts and developers to deliver BI and data solutions aligned to business needs.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and scalable data models.
- Design, develop and maintain ETL pipelines to extract, cleanse, transform and integrate data across multiple systems.
- Write, optimise and maintain SQL queries, views, stored procedures and data transformation logic to support reporting and analysis.
- Develop and maintain data models to support operational, analytical and BI reporting requirements.
- Support the integration of data from enterprise systems, including data warehouses, SAP and ERP platforms.
- Support semantic/data virtualisation layers used to serve trusted data to downstream reporting tools.
- Develop and support BI dashboards and reports using tools such as Tableau, Cognos or similar.
- Investigate and resolve data quality, ETL, performance and reporting issues.
- Support testing activity, including unit testing, peer reviews and structured release processes.
- Deliver solutions within Agile environments, contributing to sprints, stand-ups and Jira tracking.
- Engage with senior stakeholders and technical teams to ensure solutions meet business and reporting needs.
- Produce documentation and provide knowledge transfer where required.
About You
It would be ideal if you would have…
- Strong hands-on SQL development experience, ideally with SQL Server.
- Experience building end-to-end data pipelines, including ETL, data modelling and reporting.
- Experience developing and maintaining ETL processes to extract, cleanse, transform and integrate data from multiple sources.
- Hands-on experience with SSIS and/or similar ETL/data integration tooling.
- Experience with TIBCO Data Virtualisation or similar data virtualisation/semantic layer technologies.
- Experience with Qlik Replicate and/or similar data replication or integration tooling.
- Experience working with data from enterprise systems, including SAP and/or ERP platforms.
- Strong understanding of database design, relational modelling and scalable data model development.
- Experience writing and optimising SQL queries to support reporting, analytics and data analysis.
- BI/reporting experience using tools such as Tableau, Cognos or similar.
- Ability to translate business requirements into clear technical specifications and data solutions.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery, including sprints, stand-ups and Jira tracking.
- Experience working within structured development lifecycles, including testing, peer reviews and release processes.
- Ability to work independently in a secure, complex and fast-paced client environment.
Current SC Clearance is highly desirable due to the defence client environment.
