Who We Are:
At Agile Retail, we operate stores, build brands and support some of the world's most recognisable retail businesses. We're now building Agile X app - our single operating environment designed to bring disconnected retail systems, processes and data together into one scalable platform.
We're looking for a Lead Full Stack Engineer to take technical ownership of Agile X and help take it to the next stage. This is a genuinely hands-on role where you'll shape the architecture, write code and lead technical development, helping us build a platform that can evolve from connected retail operations into data-driven, AI-assisted decision-making.
The Lead Full Stack Engineer Role:
- You’ll own the technical direction and development of Agile X, combining hands-on full-stack engineering with architecture, technical leadership and delivery.
- Own the technical development, architecture and engineering roadmap for Agile X.
- Build and oversee backend services using Node.js and Express.
- Develop modern frontend experiences using React and Vite.
- Own and evolve the platform's AWS and DynamoDB data architecture.
- Build scalable, modular and API-first systems connecting retail operations, workforce, customer and performance data.
- Integrate POS, inventory, workforce, customer and third-party systems into a single connected environment.
- Manage engineering priorities, sprint planning, testing, documentation and releases.
- Establish strong engineering standards across code quality, testing and deployment.
- Lead and support engineers, contractors and external development partners.
- Help evolve Agile X towards data visualisation, predictive analytics, automation and AI-assisted operational decision-making.
What's in it for the Lead Full Stack Engineer?
- Technical ownership of a platform being built to solve real-world retail challenges.
- Genuine influence over architecture, technology choices and engineering standards.
- A hands-on role combining coding, architecture and technical leadership.
- Opportunity to build at the intersection of retail, data, automation and AI.
- Fast-growing, entrepreneurial business where technology has direct commercial impact.
Company benefits:
- Quarterly company bonus.
- Enhanced paid holiday.
- Regular work socials including summer and Christmas parties.
- Wellbeing allowance.
The role would suit someone who is:
- An experienced Senior or Lead Full Stack Engineer with strong backend and frontend capability.
- Highly experienced with Node.js, Express, React and modern JavaScript development.
- Comfortable designing and operating cloud-based systems, ideally using AWS.
- Experienced working with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB.
- Able to think architecturally whilst remaining genuinely hands-on with code and technical delivery.
- Experienced building scalable systems that connect data, workflows, APIs and user experiences.
- Comfortable taking technical ownership and managing engineering priorities, standards and quality.
- Experienced leading or providing technical direction to engineers, contractors or development partners.
- A strong communicator who can explain technical decisions and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Commercially minded and interested in using technology to solve genuine operational problems.
- Curious about data, automation, predictive analytics and AI-assisted decision-making.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where the platform and business continue to evolve.
Part engineer. Part architect. Part building the future of retail.
