About the role
You will be working as a Horticulture and Landscaping Operative Apprentice, developing practical skills and a deep knowledge about horticulture and landscaping operations in the Environment section of Cormac Highways and Environment service. This is an apprenticeship post with a fixed contract, and you will be learning whilst working gaining a Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard and going to college as appropriate.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times for self, colleagues and members of the public.
- Maintenance of public gardens and open spaces, including carrying out a range of horticultural and landscaping duties.
- Maintenance of grass and vegetation at a variety of locations, including highway verges, country parks, coast paths, sites and trails.
- Select and utilise the correct equipment and tools to carry out works efficiently.
- Understand and work within specific project specifications and contract expectations.
- Undertake horticultural and landscape works for a range of external clients.
- Propagation of plants and seeds.
- Identify and monitor pests and diseases.
- Habitat creation, monitoring of biodiversity and encouraging further initiatives.
- Preserve and protect Cornwall's natural habitat and biodiversity.
- Encourage sustainable innovations to support Cormac's vision of carbon neutrality.
- Always be an Ambassador for Cormac and positively promote the Environment service and the wider organisation.
What we're looking for
An employee who is passionate about horticulture and landscaping, working to provide safe community spaces, rich in habitat and biodiversity, accessible for all to enjoy. You will be committed to completing a Level 2 Horticulture and Landscaping apprenticeship and continuing your personal development. You will have a positive outlook and enjoy working outdoors and passionate about horticulture. You will be trustworthy, dependable and work well in a team. You will be able to communicate well with your team, your employers, tutors and the public. You will be safety conscious, have a strong awareness of the health and safety of both yourself and others. You will be resilient, adaptable and keen to learn and complete your apprenticeship. The ability to travel locally and work at different locations.
College / Training
Your qualification will be delivered at Duchy College with attendance required once a week.
