A new opportunity has arisen within our busy, friendly and talented Agriculture and Environment (A & E) team at Bidwells for an experienced agricultural consultant and specialist. This exciting Consultant, Senior Consultant or Associate role (depending on experience) will serve as a key member of the team, managing a diverse client base ranging from large institutional farmland investors to smaller family‑owned farming businesses.

This interesting and rewarding role will advise and deliver tailored management solutions, whether farms are operated in‑hand or through Farm Management Agreements, ensuring operational efficiency and sustainability. The successful person will also help drive business development initiatives, identifying opportunities to expand Bidwells' services and support future growth across the rural sector. This role will ideally be based from our Cambridge Head Office and we offer agile working, however we would also consider those nearer our Oxford and Norwich offices.

What you’ll be doing

  • Client management: Oversee a portfolio of clients farming a diverse range of crops and operating mixed, diversified enterprises, primarily across the Eastern Counties.
  • Understand client needs and provide strategic advice and practical support to ensure they adopt modern, progressive farming practices that deliver efficiency, sustainability, and profitability.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of best‑in‑class farming standards, guiding clients on crop management, soil health, and innovative technologies.
  • Advise on strategies to address sector changes and support innovation and resilience planning.
  • Champion innovative farming practices and business structures, driving adoption of regenerative, low‑carbon, and technology‑led solutions.
  • Promote and enhance our services and offering, actively identifying opportunities for new business, growth and cross‑selling.
  • Develop a robust network of industry contacts, leveraging relationships to generate new business and strengthen client engagement.
  • Represent the firm at events.
  • Take full responsibility for profitability and delivery of instructions, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Update and manage the CRM system, deals and work in progress.
  • Stay current with industry standards, legislation, and best practices.
  • Support the team and wider business through open communication, collaboration, knowledge sharing, coaching and mentoring.

About you

  • Good knowledge of Eastern Counties agriculture and farming practices, with a strong understanding of regional challenges and opportunities.
  • Collaborative and personable team player, able to build effective relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Highly literate and numerate, skilled in writing clear, concise reports and interpreting complex data sets to support decision‑making.
  • Proficient in DEFRA grant and support schemes, with practical experience in navigating compliance and funding processes.
  • An understanding of regenerative and low‑carbon farming practices.

Bonus attributes

  • BASIS or FACTS qualified, and/or have a relevant agricultural or related degree or qualification.
  • Experienced in public speaking and presentation.
  • Experience within a similar professional services consultancy.
  • Any direct experience of farm management and/or agronomy.
  • An interest in environmental management and schemes to improve biodiversity.
