We’re looking for a Senior Associate to join our growing Agriculture/Rural and Estates team, advising a diverse range of clients across a broad spectrum of rural property and agricultural matters.
The role
As a Senior Associate, you’ll be part of a consistently growing Agriculture/Rural and Estates team, working alongside Legal 500 and Chambers‑recognised leading lawyers in the sector. Our clients include landed estates, farmers, rural landowners, institutional and charitable landowners, and agricultural businesses.
Our work spans agricultural tenancies, rural land sales and acquisitions, estate management and succession, sporting rights, rural diversification projects, environmental stewardship schemes, renewable energy projects on rural land, and disposals of land for development via options, promotion agreements, and overage arrangements. The growth across each of these areas means you’ll have the opportunity to work across a genuinely broad range of rural and estates matters.
This role can be based out of our Nottingham, Birmingham, Exeter, or Manchester offices.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing advice on time and to a high standard of technical competence across a broad range of rural property and agricultural matters, including agricultural tenancies, rural land transactions, estate management and diversification projects, and delivering exceptional client service.
- Taking responsibility for running your own caseload, working alongside more senior members of the team on complex transactions and projects, and supervising more junior colleagues where appropriate, including associates, trainees, and apprentices.
- Actively and enthusiastically undertaking business development and marketing within the rural and agricultural sector, including speaking at events and seminars and seeking out and attending networking events, agricultural shows, and industry forums.
What we’re looking for
- Excellent legal drafting skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise, and commercially relevant solutions on rural property and agricultural matters, explaining and advising succinctly on difficult and complex areas whilst winning client confidence.
- A flexible, ambitious, and results‑oriented individual with a genuine interest in the rural sector and countryside, and a track record of, or appetite for, involvement in business development and building client relationships.
- An effective communicator and negotiator with strong organisational skills, able to establish and maintain harmonious and professional relationships with clients and colleagues, managing your own time effectively whilst contributing to a positive team spirit.
