Purpose of the role:

As a Fabric Technologist, you\’ll play a key part in our products critical path and will be essential to the delivery of all of our lines across Lingerie, Swimwear, Nightwear, Hosiery, RTW and Accessories.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage suppliers to deliver best quality fabrics and components providing feedback to risk assess / rectify issues. Ability to identify and resolve potential problems in end use ensuring the supply base is set up for successful bulk production and on-time delivery.
  • Technical ownership of the fabric and raw material quality and delivery. Assessment and risk analysis of all potential new fabrics and trim developments through to bulk production.
  • Support the fabric developer by risk assessing any issues at early stages ensuring all fabric and componentry use of is within company standards suitable for end use.
  • Specifications and technical standards to be established, approved and available to the business.
  • Lab and bulk dip execution/management and tracking of across the supply base to ensure no delays to production. Assess components and colour negotiating any aesthetic changes to protect the design vision.
  • Manage componentry with testing house to retailer extranet. Ensure materials meet necessary testing criteria. Define and follow a testing procedure for all fabrics as defined by the product category.
  • Collaborate with product compliance teams and testing labs to ensure chemical testing compliance.
  • Compliance management of supply base to Oeko-tex and other certifications as necessary.
  • Co-ordination of components across the supply base in order to maintain critical paths from sign off to bulk production stages in conjunction with production teams.
  • Manage core/continuity fabrics and recolour sampling across the supply base.
  • Wash care label instructions and approvals.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience within the position of Fabric Technologist or of Product Development with hand on component knowledge and awareness of UK/European/US fabric testing standards requirements along with strong practical skills.
  • In depth technical knowledge of a broad range of fabric types including warp/weft knits and wovens across a range of fibre types alongside laces, embroideries, trims and lingerie type componentry.
  • A technical understanding of different components used across a range of product categories including but not limited to leather, PVC, accessories and metal findings.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of fabric and trim manufacturing including dyeing/finishing, printing techniques, bonding, applique and wash processes.
  • Technical knowledge of construction and manufacturing methods across lingerie, swim, nightwear and accessories categories would be advantageous.
  • Able to collaborate well with team players, working across multi product categories. Hands on approach mentoring and coaching to deliver component knowledge.
  • Able to work at pace, whilst embracing change in a busy environment. A well organised, flexible team player, with a positive attitude and an agile approach with the production team.
  • Confident in liaising with suppliers and factories regarding technical matters. Encouraging a right-first-time approach, challenging suppliers to improve performance to deliver quality and consistency.
  • Able to manage and rectify failures, ensuring high quality standards are met and maintained.
  • Ability to prioritise and to switch between different tasks as required.
