Technical Underwriter:
The Technical Underwriting Team at Ageas provides technical expertise and oversight to deliver products and product changes in line with business and regulatory requirements, maintaining their integrity throughout the product lifecycle. Essentially, they act as ‘Product Controllers’.
Main Responsibilities as Technical Underwriter:
- Leading and supporting projects to ensure products remain fit for purpose, with systems and processes properly maintained and delivered on time;
- Maintaining and developing underwriting rules and technical processes, recommending changes to maximize market opportunities, growth, profitability, and control areas of poor performance;
- Contributing to policy cover development and technical process improvements, including rating structures for new and existing products, and communicating changes across Ageas and its brokers and partners;
- Evaluating new schemes, affinity, and product propositions to determine the best underwriting and technical processes for growth and profitability;
- Ensuring policy wordings and technical documentation are updated to meet business needs.
Skills and Experience Needed:
- Understanding of underwriting and pricing principles, with experience of various technical issues including policy wording construction;
- Knowledge of the personal lines market and current legal/industry developments;
- Understanding of the software house market and insurance product development on their systems;
- Organized, thorough, with good project management, attention to detail, and risk evaluation skills.
