The Security Engineering Lead is a senior role within the Information Security team, responsible for guiding and developing the organisation’s security engineering and DevSecOps capabilities. The role provides technical direction, supports team growth, and oversees a multi-disciplinary group that designs, builds, operates, and improves security platforms and controls.
Reporting to the CISO, the Security Engineering Lead ensures that security tooling, automation, and engineering practices support Security Operations, software engineering teams, and the wider Information Security strategy. The role blends hands-on technical leadership with people management, prioritisation, and strategic alignment to help security scale with the organisation’s growth and risk profile.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary security engineering and DevSecOps team.
- Set technical standards and direction for security engineering, automation, and platform operations.
- Oversee core security platforms, including SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management, identity, and email security.
- Embed security into CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments, and engineering workflows.
- Drive automation and integration to improve scale, reliability, and consistency.
- Lead adoption of AI-driven security capabilities and automation tools.
- Guide implementation of security agents, MCP integrations, and AI-assisted detection and response.
- Partner with Security Architecture to align controls with design principles and risk appetite.
- Support audits and assurance activities with clear, accurate technical evidence.
- Foster a positive engineering culture focused on quality, learning, and continuous improvement.
Skills and Experience:
- Hands-on experience in security engineering, DevSecOps, or security operations engineering.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop technical security teams.
- Strong knowledge of SIEM, detection engineering, and modern endpoint security tools.
- Experience with vulnerability management, identity platforms, and email security controls.
- Understanding of Secure Service Edge, Zero Trust principles, and cloud security practices.
- Experience embedding security into cloud-native, DevOps, and engineering environments.
- An engineering mindset with strong automation, API, and integration skills.
- Experience supporting audits or assurance frameworks such as ISO 27001.
- Clear communication skills and confidence working with senior stakeholders.
- Interest or experience in emerging technologies, including AI-enabled security capabilities.
