Could you be the one to join Age UK Rotherham’s Information & Advice Team? Our team provides a vital service to older people and anyone seeking advice to support an older person in need. The team of trained advisers is dedicated to providing accurate, impartial and comprehensive information and advice to help support those in later life. Many older people are concerned about rising energy bills, poor housing, accessibility to health and social care services, and their statutory rights. As an Information and Advice Service Adviser you will help raise awareness and empower older people to access the support they need.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate, often complex information and advice to older people in relation to benefits.
  • Conduct benefits entitlement checks.
  • Complete benefit application forms.
  • Support older people with their claims.
  • Offer advice in person, over the phone and by email.
  • Attend specialist training on legislation relevant to older people’s rights and welfare.

Qualifications

  • Passionate about helping people, with a good understanding of older people and the challenges that can arise in later life.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience supporting people to apply for welfare and later life benefits is preferred, but training will be provided.

What We Offer

  • Hours: Up to 35 hours per week, to be agreed with the successful candidate.
  • The role starts with a fixed‑term contract ending 30 September 2027, subject to a probationary period and may be extended if funding permits.
  • Salary: ACR Scale 19 – £14.25 per hour, £25,935 per annum pro‑rata.
  • Location – the role offers hybrid working between home and our offices. A robust home broadband connection is essential.
  • You will need to live within an easily commutable distance of the office and be able to attend the office two days per week during the probation and training period.
  • Many cases will require home visits, so a clean driving licence and access to a car with insurance is required.
