Location: Head Office (Poundbury), Community Venues

Hours: 30–37 hours per week (negotiable)

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £27,874 FTE (£14.50 per hour), pro-rata for part-time hours

The role requires travel across the Age UK NSWD area; a full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and grow Age UK NSWD's activities and wellbeing services. The postholder will lead on the design, delivery, and expansion of our community activities programme, with a particular focus on tackling loneliness, building community connections, and generating sustainable income through paid-for activities and events. The Activities & Wellbeing Manager will manage the hub calendar, line manage staff and volunteers, and take responsibility for delivering and growing a high-quality programme across multiple sites. Working closely with the Head of Operations & Dementia Services Lead, they will contribute to the development of new services, partnerships, and funding opportunities, ensuring activities remain impactful and financially sustainable.

Service Delivery & Growth

  • Design, coordinate, and deliver a varied programme of activities (social, exercise, creative, and educational).
  • Expand the activities programme to meet community demand and organisational objectives.
  • Proactively plan and run seasonal/community events (e.g. UK Older People's Day, Remembrance, Easter, Christmas).
  • Develop and implement income-generating groups, classes, and events, working to agreed income targets.
  • Innovate new formats in response to community needs and client feedback.
  • Ensure activities are inclusive, accessible, and focused on improving wellbeing outcomes.
  • Ensure resources are deployed efficiently, monitoring income and expenditure.
  • Work with the Head of Operations to develop and achieve activity and financial forecasts.

Leadership & Management

  • Line manage activity staff and volunteers, providing supervision, training, and development.
  • Lead planning and coordination of the activities hub calendar across multiple sites.
  • Oversee venue sourcing, bookings, and contracts.
  • Provide cover for activity groups when required.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Monitor attendance, evaluate impact, and report on service KPIs.
  • Collect and analyse data to evidence outcomes and inform improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, GDPR, Health & Safety, and organisational policies.
  • Lead risk assessments and support compliance audits or data collection for external bodies.
  • Contribute to impact reports for grants and funded projects.

Promotion, Partnerships & Income Generation

  • Act as an ambassador for Age UK NSWD, promoting activities to clients, carers, and partners.
  • Work with engagement and fundraising teams to promote paid-for activities and events.
  • Build partnerships with community groups, venues, and local businesses to strengthen the programme.

Strategic Alignment

  • Work closely with the Head of Operations to ensure services are aligned with organisational goals.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and improved efficiency.
  • Support reporting and evaluation for funding, contracts, and board monitoring.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience in coordinating and delivering community activities or wellbeing programmes.
  • Proven ability to develop and grow services, including income-generating initiatives.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Experience of leading or supervising staff and/or volunteers.
  • Excellent communication and partnership-building skills.
  • Good IT skills (MS Office, data entry and reporting systems).
  • Full driving license and ability to drive on business regularly.

Desirable

  • Experience working with older people or vulnerable groups.
  • Experience in redesigning services/activities to improve efficiency or better meet service users needs.
  • Knowledge of local community, health, and wellbeing services.
  • Experience managing budgets and monitoring service performance.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, GDPR, and compliance in a community setting.
  • Previous experience in the charity or voluntary sector.
